Time to step up and do our part for the rest of the galaxy... Win or lose it all in the next few minutes...  More powerful than any weapon, stronger than any ship... Can't be taken or destroyed...

I shifted in and out of consciousness at first but I soon discovered I had a bitch of a headache and I was pretty awake after that. How much did I drink? I cracked one blurry eye open. Where the hell was I? It looked like a makeshift hospital, but that couldn't be right. I groaned as the headache pulsed again.
"Doc, she's awake," said a voice.
I heard someone enter, their shoes clicking on the floor, "Commander, you're awake. How do you feel?"
I stared at them puzzled, I wasn't a commander, I wasn't even the leader of the Tenth Street Reds.
"Commander? I- I'm not a commander. Wouldn't be able to handle that," I mumbled.
"Can you tell me your name?" this time it was the doctor.
"Skylar... Sky for short."
"That's not right. She always introduces herself as Shepard."
I looked at the man properly for the first time, he was wearing armor and  was quite muscular, he probably worked for the Alliance, he had dark brown hair and dark eyes to match, with dark circles underneath his  eyes, "Who are you?" I asked.
"Shepard, it's me, Kaidan."
His eyes burned in mine,"I don't know a Kaidan."
"What?"
The doctor interveaved then, "Skylar, what year is it?"
"2172," I replied uncertainly.
"It's 2186."
Now I was really confused, "Is this some kind of joke? Because its not funny."
The man who called himself Kaidan looked both heartbroken and frustrated.
"Major Alenko, brain injuries are always uncertain. Her memory could come back tomorrow or over days or weeks."
"Or never." He stormed out.
"What just happened?" I asked the doctor.
"Skylar, you've been in a coma for the past four weeks. How do you feel?"
"I have the worst headache in history and I ache everywhere, especially my left arm. What happened to me?"
"We can get medication for any aches and pains. Just let the nurse know.  You were found unconscious on the Citadel, covered in bruises and cuts with bits of shrapnel in them. You have broken one arm in fourteen different places and fractured your skull, causing  TBI. I'm not a memory specialist but it appears you have  retrograde amnesia. You can't remember anything prior to your accident."
"But if the year is 2186, then I've lost fourteen years or something."
"Yes, losing that amount of memory is uncommon but it does happen. After I do a quick check up to make sure you're ok, perhaps you would like to talk to Major Alenko again. He not only refused to leave your side these past few weeks but also found you unconscious."
"I guess. He seems a bit... intimidating though."
The doctor laughed, "There's a reason he waited all these weeks for you, Commander."
"You mean he and I were... together? I'm pretty sure I could do better than that."
"I wouldn't tell him that."
Hi, this is my first attempt at fanfiction so don't be too harsh. Set 4 weeks after Shepard uses the Crucible to destroy the Reapers.
My sentinal, Skylar Shepard who is mostly paragon but can't resist the occasional renegade choice like head butting a Krogan or pushing a merc out a window...
TBI stands for Traumatic Brain Injury.

Thanks for reading.

Interesting for a Shepard to survive only to lose 14 years worth of memories. I wonder how she'll cope with that as well as learning that she was technically dead for two of those missing 14 years.
